8.3 CMD Layer Characterization

8.3.1 Surface Analytical Techniques

Various surface analytical techniques were used to characterize the developed CMD layers, including attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE), contact angle (CA) measurements, optical waveguide lightmode spectroscopy (OWLS), quartz crystal microbalance with impedance measurement (QCM-I), as well as phase contrast microscopy. A list of the used analytical techniques as well as specific layer parameters offered by the measurement methods are summarized in Table 8.1.
